On April 15, 2025, the 40th annual exhibition of the Emirates Fine Arts Society (EFAS) opened its doors at the Sharjah Art Museum. The event, officially inaugurated by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, is a significant moment in Sharjah’s rich cultural calendar. The exhibition provides a platform for local and regional artists to showcase their creative journeys and reflect on the evolution of fine arts in the UAE.
A Diverse Showcase of Contemporary and Traditional Art
The exhibition features works by 50 participating artists, including pioneers of Emirati fine arts and international talents from various Arab nations and beyond. Visitors can experience an eclectic mix of media, from photography and sculpture to painting and installation art. The collection includes oil, watercolour, acrylic, and ceramic pieces, all contributing to a vibrant visual landscape that highlights the diversity of contemporary art.
While touring the exhibition, Sheikh Salem engaged with the artists, gaining deeper insights into their creative processes. His visit underscored the significance of the EFAS exhibition as a crucial milestone in Sharjah’s artistic scene. Over the years, the event has helped to build Sharjah’s reputation as a hub for the arts both locally and internationally.
Supporting Artists and Fostering Cultural Dialogue
The exhibition’s success is bolstered by the collaboration between the Emirates Fine Arts Society, the Department of Culture, the Sharjah Museum Authority, and the Sharjah Art Foundation. A special committee, which includes renowned figures such as Khalil Abdulwahid, Dr. Karima Al Shomely, Salma Al Marri, and Dr. Mohammed Yousif (chairman of EFAS), curated the selected works. Also, their expertise ensures a balanced display that connects traditional Emirati art forms with innovative experimentation, creating a dynamic tapestry of visual culture.
As Sharjah continues to solidify its status as a cultural epicentre, the 40th EFAS Exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and dialogue within the global arts community.
