5000, led by Taylor Thompson, continues to redefine menswear with its (Fall/Winter) FW25 2025 collection. Entitled “Bootsy,” this collection celebrates a slang term from the Bay Area that refers to something uncool or awkward. In contrast, it also acknowledges the boldness associated with funk legend Bootsy Collins. Thompson explores how “Bootsy” can be reinterpreted in fashion to celebrate individuality and authenticity.

5000’s FW25 “Bootsy” Collection: Bay Area Slang in Menswear

Rebellious Menswear with a Twist

The FW25 collection was unveiled during New York Fashion Week, offering a playful take on high-school aesthetics. It showcased a mix of wearable pieces with elements of rebellion. The collection included a Spiver football jersey, a cheerleader-inspired cropped top, and an oversized Gakuran blazer. Additionally, Thompson introduced a badge-emblazoned leather jacket, matching pants, and spiked lace-up sneakers.

The runway show was staged at the Nine Orchard Hotel in the Lower East Side, New York. It was set against the backdrop of the city’s skyline, accompanied by a soundtrack featuring sounds from the Bay Area, such as foghorns, fireworks, and BART trains. The collection had a total of 29 looks, each designed to challenge traditional menswear conventions.

Innovative Elements in Menswear

5000 kept suiting as a focal point but reimagined it in a way that pushes boundaries. The classic double-lapelled suits were enhanced with unique details, like a single bold pocket and ribbon ties. These pieces were contrasted by bleach-dyed blazers and trousers. Thompson also incorporated textures and layering techniques, such as curved buttoning on Oxford shirts, to add visual intrigue.

One of the show’s standout moments occurred when several models walked with pleated capes draped over their heads. Halfway through the runway, they revealed that these capes were attached to their jackets, transforming them into dramatic trains. This gesture emphasized the collection’s message: even what’s perceived as “uncool” can be redefined into something chic and expressive.

Conclusion: Redefining Menswear Through Rebellion

The “Bootsy” collection is a bold exploration of culture and fashion. Taylor Thompson continues to challenge menswear norms with pieces that blend rebellious spirit and contemporary elegance. Also by drawing from his Bay Area roots and reimagining a regional slang term, Thompson has crafted a collection that celebrates individuality, creativity, and cultural authenticity.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Fall/Winter 2025 season, where 5000 continues to challenge the boundaries of menswear with every collection.
