To mark its 270th anniversary, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled two extraordinary creations: the Métiers d’Art “Tribute to the Quest of Time” double-sided wristwatch and the unique La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art astronomical clock. Both exemplify the Maison’s dedication to haute horlogerie and decorative craftsmanship, combining centuries of watchmaking expertise with artistic innovation.
Tribute to precision and artistry
The “Tribute to the Quest of Time” wristwatch features the new manually wound Calibre 3670, a feat of miniaturization containing 512 components and four patent applications within a 43mm white-gold case. Its front dial presents a golden human figure whose outstretched arms function as double retrograde hour and minute hands, switchable between continuous and on-demand display. Twin power-reserve arcs accompany a three-dimensional precision moon phase set against the Geneva sky of September 17, 1755.
The reverse reveals a sapphire sky chart, tracking sidereal time and real-time constellations with a one-day accuracy over 9,130 years. Executed in guilloché, engraving, and grand feu enamel after three years of development, the 20-piece series is powered by a six-day reserve and is priced on request.
La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art
The La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art astronomical clock reflects seven years of multidisciplinary collaboration. Its 6,293-component movement includes 23 complications, seven watchmaking patents, and a life-sized Astronomer automaton driven by 158 cams, all housed in a rock-crystal and lapis lazuli structure. The clock is set to be displayed at the Louvre’s Mécaniques d’Art exhibition this fall.
Perched atop the clock, the Astronomer performs 144 unique gestures across three choreographed sequences, synchronized with an integrated mechanical music machine. Below, a two-tier plinth showcases ornamental cabochons representing Earth and the planets. This modern horological marvel evokes the spirit of 18th-century timekeeping wonders, uniting human ingenuity with the cosmos.
These anniversary creations reaffirm Vacheron Constantin’s ongoing commitment to blending technical innovation with artistic expression.
