Jonathan Anderson, Wedgwood, and the Estate of Lucie Rie have collaborated to realise a long-lost design by the celebrated 20th-century potter: an unproduced series of Jasperware teacups and saucers originally conceived for Wedgwood in 1964. The revived collection showcases the brand’s signature blue with crisp white inlays, offered in both teacup-and-saucer and coffee-cup-and-saucer sets.

Historical Craft Meets Contemporary Design

Alongside Lucie Rie’s restored pieces, the collection introduces Jonathan Anderson’s own Greek-inspired mugs, echoing 5th-century forms. New accessories include a washed-cotton cap and a hybrid tote-shoulder bag. Each piece bridges historical reference and modern reinterpretation, celebrating the shared reverence for craft among all three collaborators.

Masterful Artisanship

Every item is handcrafted by Wedgwood’s master artisans using traditional turning techniques. Clay is molded, dried to a “leather-hard” state, and meticulously trimmed and smoothed on a lathe — preserving Rie’s intentional imperfections and functional elegance. The mug range is available in three two-tone pairings — Blue/Saxon Blue, Chocolate Brown/Black, and Canary Yellow/Mimosa Yellow — while Rie’s teacups and saucers feature delicate white sgraffito on a tactile matte finish.

“Lucie Rie is one of the greatest potters of the 20th century,” Anderson said. “I believe she would be thrilled to see these designs finally brought to life, especially as part of a project giving back.” Proceeds from the collection will support the new Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, which preserves archival materials and funds academic and creative scholarships.

The Jonathan Anderson & Wedgwood Special Collection is now available via Wedgwood and JW Anderson’s webstores, as well as select Wedgwood boutiques in the U.S., Japan, and China, department stores in the U.K., and JW Anderson stores in London, Milan, and Tokyo.
