The Sharjah House of Poetry hosted a captivating evening on Tuesday, featuring poets Zohair Al Tahari from Yemen, Ali Mustafa Loun from Nigeria, and Mohamed Al Amin Diop from Senegal. The event drew an audience of critics, poets, and poetry enthusiasts, alongside poet and House Director Mohammed Abdullah Al Buraiki. Moroccan poet Mariam Kouiss hosted the evening, warmly welcoming attendees and highlighting the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. She described him as “the beating heart of the Arab cultural project,” noting that his vision has turned culture into a message and creativity into a responsibility.
Poets Honour the UAE and Sharjah
Yemeni poet Zohair Al Tahari opened the readings with verses praising the UAE and the spirit of the Union, followed by a poem dedicated to Sharjah, filled with vivid imagery and emotional depth. He concluded with “A Bow in the Glass of the Body,” reflecting on the universe through poetic insight. Nigerian poet Ali Mustafa Loun then took the stage, dedicating his opening poem to the UAE before offering verses to the Ruler of Sharjah, including his striking piece, “A Dance on the Panels.” Finally, Senegalese poet Mohamed Al Amin Diop honoured the UAE on Eid Al Etihad and presented his poem, “A Sudden Fall from the Window of Life.”
Celebrating Artistic Contribution
At the close of the evening, Mohammed Al Buraiki presented commemorative honours to all participating poets, acknowledging their contributions to a night defined by creativity, cultural exchange, and unity. The event underscored poetry’s role in bridging nations, inspiring reflection, and celebrating shared cultural heritage.
