Sigma’s Shanghai showroom, designed by Onoaa Studio, spans 500 square meters and embodies the brand’s philosophy: “Beyond the technology, is Art.” Located in the Shang Sheng Xin Suo community, the space is divided into three interconnected zones—reception, display, and gallery—each reflecting Sigma’s principles: “The Ways of Being,” “The Ways of Crafting,” and “The Ways of Seeing.” The design emphasizes a minimalist aesthetic, aiming to feel “pure as water” while blending seamlessly with the adjacent fern garden.
Transparent Craftsmanship and Thoughtful Layout
The reception area introduces visitors to a sense of intimacy and restraint, featuring lowered ceilings, white concrete walls, gray-beige handmade brick flooring, and a deep blue wool reception desk. Visitors can view the visible product repair room, which is illuminated and lined with drawers, evoking a laboratory-like serenity. This transparency highlights Sigma’s commitment to craftsmanship and engages visitors with the meticulous processes behind lens and camera maintenance.
Showcasing Artistry Through Display and Gallery Spaces
The display and gallery areas further reinforce Sigma’s dedication to artistry. A three-meter-tall, ten-meter-long lens wall exhibits over 100 custom mounts for Contemporary, Art, Sports, and Cine lenses. Additionally, a circular limestone display table mimics a camera lens, symbolizing photography’s ability to capture time. The gallery, slightly elevated, provides a ceremonial setting for exhibitions and events, allowing artwork to remain the focal point with minimal architectural intervention.
