Tottenham Hotspur has partnered with Nike to release a special-edition shirt marking the club’s historic 1901 FA Cup triumph. Notably, that victory remains the only time a non-league side has won the competition, cementing its place in English football history. As a result, the release positions heritage not just as nostalgia, but as a commercially and culturally valuable asset.

A restrained design rooted in history

Set to debut during tomorrow’s match, the long-sleeved shirt adopts a pared-back aesthetic inspired by the kit worn 125 years ago. Instead of modern embellishments, it features only the sponsor and Nike Swoosh in Tottenham’s signature Lilywhite tone. Additionally, the shirt omits player names and graphics, leaving only the back number visible. Consequently, the minimal design reinforces its status as a collector-focused release rather than a performance-led product.

“To mark 125 years since our groundbreaking FA Cup success in 1901, we want to bring what remains a historic achievement to the forefront of popular culture with what is a truly beautiful shirt, delivered in collaboration with Nike,” said Merchandise and Licensing Director Duncan Pass in an official statement. “Seeing the team step onto the pitch wearing a shirt inspired by the heroes of yesteryear is sure to capture the imagination of fans young and old.”

Campaign activation and limited release strategy

To support the launch, Tottenham Hotspur enlisted Djed Spence, Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and Mohammed Kudus for a visually driven campaign. Meanwhile, the creative centers on a sculptural shirt installation by artist Alasdair Thomson, produced inside his Edinburgh studio. Beyond promotion, the visuals also signal the start of the club’s broader FA Cup narrative for the season.

From a commercial standpoint, scarcity underpins the strategy. Therefore, the shirt releases in a strictly limited run of 1,901 units, directly referencing the year of the original victory. Sales open at 9 a.m. GMT on January 10, exclusively through the Spurs Retail Shop online.
