Lane Crawford has partnered with USM and Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung to launch the “Beautiful Thing!” collection, a cross-disciplinary release that merges industrial design with collectible art culture. The global-exclusive debut, staged in Hong Kong, signals a growing convergence between furniture design and character-driven visual art.
Collectible design object anchors collaboration
At the centre of the drop is a limited-edition collectable featuring a classic USM glass display cabinet reinterpreted as a narrative object. The structure is adorned with Kasing Lung’s signature illustrations, while the interior houses an exclusive co-branded Labubu Bob character seated on a bespoke USM mini seat.
Each piece includes an artist-signed certificate and an NFC-authenticated collector’s code, reinforcing the object’s status within the growing design collectibles market. As a result, the collaboration positions the cabinet not only as functional furniture but also as a curated display artefact.
Moreover, the integration of character design within a modular system highlights how contemporary design increasingly accommodates storytelling and emotional engagement. Consequently, the project reflects a shift toward hybrid objects that operate across art, design and collectible culture.

Modular furniture reimagined through narrative surfaces
Beyond the collectable figure, the collaboration extends into a broader USM furniture capsule. Known for its configurable metal modules, the system is reimagined through illustrated exterior panels featuring Lung’s recurring monster characters.
This approach transforms familiar storage units into expressive surfaces, while maintaining the structural logic that defines USM’s design language. In turn, everyday interiors become sites for visual storytelling, bridging utility and imagination.
Additionally, the project underscores how modular design can adapt to new cultural contexts without losing its core identity. Therefore, the capsule aligns with ongoing experimentation in furniture design, where customization and artistic intervention play an increasingly central role.
Immersive retail experience connects design and local culture
To mark the launch, Lane Crawford has introduced an immersive pop-up titled “The Monsters’ Tea Room” at Pacific Place. The installation blends the furniture showcase with nostalgic references to Hong Kong dining culture, creating a spatial narrative that extends the collection’s themes.
Furthermore, the experiential format reflects broader retail strategies that prioritise engagement and cultural context. Visitors encounter the collection within a designed environment that merges local memory with contemporary design practice.
The “Beautiful Thing!” collectable is available via a public raffle from April 23 to May 4, while the furniture collection is open for pre-order until July 31. Through this release, the collaboration demonstrates how design brands continue to expand beyond traditional categories, integrating art, narrative and experience into cohesive cultural propositions.
