Sharjah continued its cultural outreach in Europe with a poetry event titled “Echoes,” presented as part of its Guest of Honour programme at the Warsaw International Book Fair. The literary gathering brought together leading voices from the UAE and Poland, highlighting poetry as a platform for cultural dialogue and artistic exchange.

Hosted at Sharjah’s pavilion, the event featured readings by Emirati poets Dr Abdul Hakim Al-Zubaidi and Dhaen Shaheen alongside acclaimed Polish poet Jacek Posciadło. Through a series of readings and conversations, the programme explored connections between Arabic and Polish literary traditions while introducing contemporary Emirati poetry to international audiences.

The evening attracted writers, publishers, literary professionals, and readers from across the global publishing community. Moreover, the session was structured as a creative dialogue that encouraged cross-cultural engagement through shared themes and poetic expression.

The featured works examined subjects including memory, identity, personal reflection, and the universal dimensions of human experience. As a result, the programme demonstrated how poetry can transcend linguistic and geographic boundaries while fostering meaningful cultural understanding.

Poetry Programme Strengthens Sharjah’s Literary Presence in Europe

The “Echoes” event formed part of a broader cultural programme organised by Sharjah during the book fair. Alongside poetry readings, the emirate presented a series of seminars, panel discussions, and interactive workshops designed to showcase Emirati and Arab literature to European audiences.

Furthermore, the programme reflects Sharjah’s long-standing investment in literary exchange and international publishing partnerships. By bringing together authors, poets, translators, and cultural institutions, the initiative seeks to expand opportunities for collaboration between the Arab world and Europe.

Sharjah’s participation also underscores the emirate’s growing role as a global cultural hub. Through sustained engagement with international book fairs and literary festivals, it continues to promote Arabic literature while creating new pathways for dialogue between diverse creative communities.

As part of its Guest of Honour presence in Warsaw, Sharjah is presenting an extensive cultural programme aimed at strengthening ties with Polish educational and cultural institutions. Consequently, the programme extends beyond the fair itself, contributing to longer-term relationships within the international literary landscape.

Through events such as “Echoes,” Sharjah continues to position poetry and literature as essential tools for cultural diplomacy, reinforcing the value of artistic exchange in an increasingly interconnected world.
