Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is dedicating June to Dino Month, a month-long celebration inspired by one of the museum’s most compelling narratives: the Age of Dinosaurs and the prehistoric life that once shaped Earth. Through interactive workshops, family activities, science-led sessions, and wellness experiences, the programme invites visitors of all ages to explore dinosaurs as a gateway to understanding evolution, biodiversity, and the natural world.

Consequently, the initiative combines scientific discovery with creative engagement. In addition, the programme reflects the museum’s broader approach to education, storytelling, and immersive visitor experiences.

The museum will host a series of dinosaur-themed sessions designed to bring prehistoric science to life. Among them is Dinosaur Detectives: What Killed the Dinosaurs?, in which participants investigate theories about the extinction event that occurred 66 million years ago. Taking place in the Paleo Lab from June 26 to 30 at 11 am, 2 pm, and 5 pm, the experience encourages visitors to examine evidence and explore one of paleontology’s enduring questions.

Meanwhile, Surviving the Darkness focuses on the K-Pg mass extinction event and introduces children to the environmental changes that followed the asteroid impact. Sessions will run from June 26 to 30 at 12 pm, 2 pm, and 4 pm in the Evolving World Gallery.

Visitors can also take part in the Survive Like a Dinosaur Card Game, which explores how evolutionary adaptations enabled species to respond to changing environments. The activity runs from June 5 to 30 at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm.

Fossils, Family Activities, and Museum Storytelling Take Center Stage

Another highlight, Scales to Feathers, examines the evolutionary connection between dinosaurs and modern birds. Using specimens from the museum’s fossil collection, participants compare Archaeopteryx and Pterosaur fossils while exploring evidence that supports the theory that birds are living dinosaurs. Sessions take place from June 26 to 30 at 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm in the Evolving World Gallery.

In What’s in a Name?, visitors will discover how scientific classification systems help researchers organize and understand specimens ranging from dinosaur fossils to meteorites. Consequently, the workshop offers insight into the role of taxonomy and museum collections in preserving knowledge.

Celebrating the UAE’s Year of the Family, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi has also introduced Nature’s Families: Bird Edition Game. Held on weekends throughout June in the Our World Today Gallery, the experience encourages families to explore native bird species in the Emirates while identifying biological relationships through interactive character cards. Sessions are scheduled for 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm, and 7 pm.

Furthermore, younger visitors can participate in creative workshops that merge art and science. Constellation Light Lab enables children to create constellation viewers while learning about astronomy and mythology. Meanwhile, Sun Printing introduces photogram techniques using sunlight and natural materials, blending scientific observation with artistic expression.

Visitors can also experience Build a Mini Exhibit, where participants assume the role of curator by selecting specimen replicas and designing their own displays. As a result, the workshop highlights the importance of storytelling, exhibition design, and museum interpretation.

Wellness Programming Expands the Museum Experience

Alongside its educational activities, the museum continues to develop its wellness offerings. Therefore, the Nature and Mind series returns with a ladies-only guided yoga session on June 8 in the Theatre and a guided yoga experience beneath the museum’s iconic sauropods on June 16 in the Atrium.

The Morning of Wellness on June 21 will mark International Yoga Day with yoga and sound-meditation sessions beneath the dinosaur skeletons. In addition, Under the Strawberry Moon: A Sound Healing Experience on June 29 will provide an evening dedicated to reflection and mindfulness inspired by Earth’s ancient rhythms and humanity’s relationship with nature.

Throughout June, Dino Month positions the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi as a destination where science, design, education, and creative experiences intersect. Consequently, the programme underscores the institution’s commitment to engaging audiences through immersive storytelling and interdisciplinary learning.

Museum opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 6:30 pm, and Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 8:30 pm. For more information and updates on Dinosaur Month, visit nhmad.ae and follow the museum’s social media channels.
