British design studio Layer has unveiled Node and Loft, a family of charging products created for Indian accessories brand Daily Objects. The collection rethinks multi-device charging by introducing interchangeable modules that users can move around the home or office as needed.

Layer founder Benjamin Hubert said the project aimed to make charging devices feel less like a purely functional task and more like a considered part of everyday life.

“Charging your tech is one of the most repeated interactions in daily life, yet the products that enable it are often treated as background objects,”

“With Node and Loft, we wanted to bring clarity, flexibility and character to that experience and create a family of products to the fore, that work beautifully, feel intuitive to use, and establish a distinctive visual language for Daily Objects,”

The Node system centers on a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 dock that can be configured with four interchangeable modules: a wireless phone charger, a wireless charging disk, an Apple Watch stand, and a portable lamp.

Unlike conventional charging stations, each module can remain docked or be removed and used independently. This allows users to move charging functions between spaces, such as a desk, a bedside table, or a dining area.

“Most multi-device charging products are built around a fixed assumption that everyone wants to charge the same three devices in the same configuration,” Hubert said.

“Node challenges this one-size-fits-all approach through a modular system that can be configured around individual needs.”

Charging meets lighting and home design

Each Node module contains its own battery, enabling wireless use away from the dock. The phone stand and charging disk provide 25-watt fast charging, while the Apple Watch stand delivers 5-watt wireless charging.

The portable lamp extends the ecosystem beyond charging, offering up to eight hours of ambient lighting with three brightness settings.

Layer also designed Loft, a separate charging station that combines mains power with USB-C fast charging for up to four devices simultaneously.

Soft forms and tactile materials define the collection

Visually, the products depart from the minimal black-and-metal aesthetic common in consumer electronics. Instead, Layer used rounded forms, arched silhouettes, soft-touch finishes, and rubberized surfaces to create a warmer, more approachable appearance.

“Node is more playful and personal than other chargers,” said Hubert, “transforming charging from a functional task into something that can be tailored to individual needs and spaces.”

“We believe technology can be warm, approachable and playful,” he added. “Charging is something people do every day, so those interactions should feel enjoyable and uplifting.”

The circular charging motifs reference the familiar visual language of wireless charging, while textured rubber docking surfaces help guide device placement and create a distinctive design identity.

“The matte surfaces are pleasant to handle, easy to grip and help soften reflections and highlights, creating a calmer and more tactile experience,” claimed Hubert.

“Across the collection, the materials and finishes work together to create a softer, more human-centred relationship with technology.”

Designed for portability and future expansion

Layer developed the products with battery management, thermal performance, charging efficiency, and safety in mind while maintaining compact, portable forms. The Loft station was designed initially for the Indian market, though the studio says it could be adapted for Europe and North America in the future. Meanwhile, the Node ecosystem supports Apple devices internationally.

The project reflects Layer’s broader human-centered approach to industrial design, which the studio has previously applied to products for brands including Nike, Sony, Samsung, and Pepsi.
