Firetti Contemporary, a gallery that represents both established and new artists from all over the
world, installed a colossal sculpture at DIFC, Dubai, on the occasion of the UAE’s 50th National
Day. The sculpture Pillar of Fortitude, created by Albanian-born artist Helidon Xhixha, is
dedicated to the nation’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
The sculpture is seven metres tall, alluding to the number one, which represents the unity of the
UAE’s seven Emirates. The art is lofty and soars towards the sky, implying that it aspires to a
bright and endless future.
The goal is to make Dubai a cultural melting pot for international talent, as well as a hub for
creativity and cross-cultural conversation. “Dubai Culture believes in cross-cultural collaboration
and is developing international partnerships to strengthen its global footprint and attract global
talents through new initiatives aimed at developing the creative sector in Dubai and increasing its
contribution to the national economy under the overarching Dubai Creative Economy Strategy,”
said Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash.
