The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) said that the performance of its cultural assets in Dubai has improved dramatically after a challenging year caused by the global ramifications of COVID-19. In 2021, more than 521,000 people visited the Authority’s museums, heritage sites, and public libraries.
According to statistics compiled by Dubai Culture, museums, historic sites, and public libraries in Dubai are continuing to grow in popularity as touristic, cultural, and educational attractions for UAE citizens, residents, and visitors. The total number of visitors to these venues in 2021 was 521,753; historic sites led the list, accounting for 50% of all visitors, followed by libraries (39%), and museums (11%).
Despite the conditions and repercussions imposed by the pandemic on the cultural and creative sector around the world, Dubai Culture adopted an effective methodology in dealing with the imposed challenges through digital offerings such as virtual tours, workshops, activities, and educational lectures across those sites, according to Department and Acting CEO of the Culture & Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture.
Following the emirate’s lockdown, Dubai Culture was successful in reigniting the cultural movement and keeping the public informed about Dubai’s history and cultural sites. The Authority also ensured that all preventative measures and procedures were implemented to ensure the highest level of protection for personnel and visitors to such sites.”We believe in the importance of providing our youngsters with information and nurturing their minds with culture in order to build ambitious generations that are open to all cultures and capable of leading the emirate’s growth process in the coming decades,” Bin Kharbash stated. We are committed to developing programmes and projects that aim to make literature and culture accessible to all, encouraging the younger generation to make reading a part of their daily lives, based on our understanding of the importance of reading in refining the personality of youth and planting seeds of inspiration and creativity in their minds.”
