Abu Dhabi’s new ‘Cat Café’ combines a love for cats and a passion for coffee

Cat lovers and pet owners in Abu Dhabi may rejoice, as the region’s first cat café, the Meow Café, has opened. The cat café, which is located in Al Muneera, had a soft launch in November but is now accessible to the public.

Meow Café is a well-lit facility with cherry blossom trees in its interior, similar to those found in Japanese cat cafes. Cats and coffee lovers may mingle at the café, which serves hot and cold beverages as well as baked goods.

Animal lovers can play with the cats in a separate section of the café, which currently houses 13 furry residents. The names of the cats here, such as Yuri and Kora, are also Japanese-inspired.

The cat café, which is owned by Mouza Al Mannaei, began as a passion project with all of the cats being rescued, adopted, or found dumped pets. The space is equipped with a variety of animal accessories, such as cat trees and scratching posts, as well as a glass wall that allows the animals to observe people.

There’s also a separate section where the cats may go if they don’t want to interact with the customers. For an hour, admission to the cat section costs Dh45 for adults and Dh35 for children under the age of ten. Visitors can freely interact with the furry newborns in this area.

The basic rule of the cat café is to make it more educational, particularly for children. While this is the first in Abu Dhabi, Ailuromania, Dubai’s first cat cafe, opened in 2015.
