A new wave At Burj Al Arab Jumeirah’s Galleria Continua

Galleria Continua is presenting a group display including the gallery’s represented artists from different continents, split and joined by water, for its third exhibition at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. Yoan Capote, Loris Cecchini, Nikhil Chopra, Anish Kapoor, Ornaghi & Prestinari, Giovanni Ozzola, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Serse, Pascale Marthine Tayou, and Manuela Sedmach are among the artists who have contributed to the exhibition.

Khuan Chew of KCA International created a contemporary approach to the context of the Arab’s heritage and opulent interior decorations. The four elements are represented visually in the hotel’s decor: water, air, fire, and earth. NEW WAVE’s theme is water, and it engages in a conversation with the hotel’s history, its location on a man-made island in the Arabian Gulf, and the landscape views from the gallery space.

The installation was created specifically for this location. Waterbones (2022), a work by Italian artist Loris Cecchini, is displayed in the centre of the gallery and represents water particles. The structure interacts with its surroundings’ architectural volume and experiments with abstract and geometric forms. There are hundreds of them.

The paintings series A Fior d’Acqua (2014-2015) by Italian artist Serse highlight the water ripples in the same monochrome style as Cecchini’s Waterbones. Lights and shadows reveal the geometry of liquid shapes, while the lack of human context provides a dreamlike, almost contemplative mood.

From 7 June to 1 September 2022, the exhibition NEW WAVE will be on display at Galleria Continua Dubai, located at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
