One of the most well-known contemporary art galleries, Galleria Continua, has opened “New Wave,” a new show, in Dubai’s famed Burj Al-Arab hotel.

Yoan Capote, Loris Cecchini, Nikhil Chopra, Anish Kapoor, Ornaghi & Prestinari, Giovanni Ozzola, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Manuela Sedmach, Serse, and Pascale Marthine Tayou are just a few of the well-known international artists whose work is on display in the exhibition, which is open until September 1.

The gallery has locations across the globe, including in Italy, China, and Brazil, but this exhibition is particularly noteworthy since it honors its home city. The artwork on display aims to shed insight on the history of the United Arab Emirates and, in particular, the Burj Al-Arab and its location on an artificial island in the Arabian Gulf.

The phrase “New Wave” also refers to the region’s expanding aspirations for modern art, which we are currently witnessing. Since the Art Dubai fair’s inaugural edition in 2008, Galleria Continua has maintained a presence there, according to Fiaschi. “We can sense the city’s fresh, exhilarating energy. We think that both our current collectors and new audiences will like the variety of artists we chose for this exhibition.

“New Waves” reflects Dubai as a developing crossroads for international art, with works by internationally renowned artists like Anish Kapoor and Michelangelo Pistoletto, the up-and-coming scene represented by the Italian duo Ornaghi & Prestinari, as well as artists with strong ties to the region like Nikhil Chopra.
