The Gulf’s up-and-coming painters will have shows at the reopened NYUAD Art Gallery

Due to the pandemic, the NYUAD Art Gallery’s Project Space had to close its doors to the public for two years. Now, it’s reopening with a number of new exhibitions.

Tala Nassar, associate manager of curatorial initiatives at NYUAD Art Gallery, said, “We launch this year with a terrific line-up of exhibitions highlighting rising artists from both our UAE and NYUAD communities.

We can’t wait to see everyone again in person after a two-year absence, expanding and deepening our relationship with audiences in the UAE and elsewhere. The Arts Centre’s Project Space is hosting a new lineup of exhibitions that will highlight a variety of up-and-coming local artists.

The most recent body of work by Emirati artist Almaha Jaralla is titled Shadia, and it was selected by Hashel Al Lamki, another Emirati artist.

The exhibition, which consists of paintings made using a variety of techniques from oil on canvas to traditional textiles and materials, chronicles Jaralla’s recent family history of migration across the Arabian Peninsula. One such migration was made by her maternal grandmother, who travelled alone across the continent in search of a more stable and safe future.

Noura Ali-Allow Ramahi’s Me Not to Explain, published on November 10

Noura Ali-Ramahi, an Emirati artist who was born in Lebanon, drew inspiration for her exhibition Allow Me Not to Explain from her regular, reflective walks at various times of the day.

Mahmood Al Daoud’s The Flow of Stillness is due out on October 20

Mahmood Al Daoud, a multidisciplinary artist from Syria, will display works in mixed media, some of which make use of elements found in nature, such sand.

Al Daoud’s exhibition examines a dimension of this dominant feature of the area through a light-reflecting resin installation, sketches of boats, mixed media works on canvas, a dark room installation, and a short film immersing spectators in his research of sandy surroundings.
