Hassan is an Egyptian interdisciplinary designer and artist based in southern California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural design, and his experiences vary between museography, exhibition design, computational design, furniture design, architecture and construction, digital fabrication, and conceptual art. Alongside his work as a computational designer, Hassan is currently exploring the digital art scene using artificial intelligence.

Hassan believes creativity is such an intangible phenomenon that one can’t just pinpoint a holistic definition. As human beings we have always managed to overcome our limitations with the help of the tools we make; through an initial understanding of cause and effect, we managed to take pre-existing elements and combine them in novel ways, thus unconsciously making the ‘whole more than the sum of its parts. ‘So, one could argue that creativity is only a process of a parametric copy-paste; where new ideas are the process of making meaningful connections of what already existed.

Hassan’s venture into AI-generated art has been a fruitful one. Hassan further expresses that over the past summer, new AI diffusion models have become accessible to the public. And while using AI tools in creating artwork is causing a huge debate over authenticity, ownership, and what it means to be an artist; Hassan believes these tools are here to stay as they present the creatives with the unique opportunity to be able to generate artwork in such an unprecedented method, speed, and context.

“My main current focus is to understand how AI text-to-image to image/video works through incorporating architectural elements. Being an architect, I am often very busy to be able to generate artwork. But using these tools not only allows me to make artwork much quicker than any other tool, but most importantly it gives me a free domain to visualize my ideas in such a unique way, away from the usual architectural constraints that I deal with on a daily basis,” says Hassan.

Hassan’s artworks usually investigate the mix between architecture, intangible culture, and visual art.
