Dubai Design Week is an annual gathering place for the creative community in Dubai and the surrounding area where designers and other creatives can exhibit their work and spark conversation. The festival offers a diverse lineup of events every year, including exhibitions, installations, panel discussions, and workshops.
This year’s topic of the yearly event, which is currently in its eighth season, will be designing for a sustainable future. Through a variety of disciplines, including architecture, product design, interior design, and multimedia, this will be included in the week’s events by both renowned and up-and-coming international and regional designers.
The six-day festival will feature a variety of events, such as exhibitions, workshops, and speeches.
A number of immersive public works will be created by regional and international artists as part of the installation programme, Design With Impact. The installations’ techniques and components aim to start discussions on the beneficial effects that design can have on the environment.
The Palm Renaissance public installation will demonstrate how date palm trash may be converted into modern screens that serve as effective sunshades. By building these date palm shelters, palm waste is disposed of sustainably and the carbon footprint is decreased.
Al Gargoor Project is another installation that seeks to alter how the public views well-known material. A variety of furnishings constructed of gargoor, a material frequently used to make fishing nets, will be found in the public area. Al Gargoor honors the tradition of these items while demonstrating how they may be repurposed into a more modern, ecological product by using old fishing nets.
Dubai Design Week exhibitions will display a wide spectrum of creations and ideas from regional designers, as well as works from the metaverse.
The UAE Designer Exhibition is a display of local talent from many design disciplines, both new and old, that is set up in the Downtown Design tent. The exhibition gives local designers an essential stage to present their work to a global audience of design professionals.
Additionally, workshops for visitors of all ages and educational levels will be offered during Dubai Design Week by experts, including professors and practitioners. There will also be a variety of seminars where top worldwide and regional professionals discuss trends and developments in the industry for individuals who are more interested in panel discussions. Interdisciplinary design methods, new technologies in art, design, and craft, and the condition of sustainability, particularly in the context of architecture, are some of the topics that will be covered.
The d3 Design Market by FLTRD, which offers a shopping experience full of locally produced items spanning apparel, accessories, and homeware, will also be held for the first time during the week.
