The immersive, multi-sensory attraction teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, which is located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, is now 25% complete in construction, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading developer of immersive destinations and experiences.
TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi collaborates with teamLab, the renowned multidisciplinary art collective headquartered in Tokyo. It is expected to be finished in 2024 and will be an inspirational, immersive space at the nexus of art and technology that will spark visitors’ curiosity, imagination, and creativity. The 17,000 square meters (GFA) teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi building, the newest offering of the Saadiyat Cultural District, is being constructed with unmatched installations that will be exclusive to Abu Dhabi and generated through a rigorous experimental process.
“We are carrying out our mission to welcome the globe to Abu Dhabi and encourage upcoming generations to embark on voyages of innovation and exploration,” said Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary at DCT Abu Dhabi. “TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will be genuinely exceptional and a turning point in innovation and development as we transform the emirate into a world-class tourist destination with arts, culture, and entertainment at the center. We will create a carefully curated experience and an iconic culture and tourist destination to share with the world through the power of relationship with DCT, Miral, teamLab, and our ecosystem of contractors, all of which strengthen Saadiyat Cultural District’s credentials globally.”
Additionally, ALEC, a renowned creative construction business with offices in the UAE, has been chosen by Miral in collaboration with DCT Abu Dhabi to serve as the main contractor for the development of this massive project.
In order to experience teamLab’s brand-new idea of “Environmental Phenomena,” which offers a fresh perspective on the world around us, visitors are encouraged to open their minds and embark on an adventure. The environment that generates the various phenomena shapes and forms the featured artworks. The distinctive architecture is crucial in giving the artworks a space to develop naturally and freely as if they were living things in and of themselves. Each visitor’s experience will change with each visit as they learn about a location where they can constantly explore and go beyond the bounds of their imagination.
The emirate is quickly becoming a recognized global talent hub and a top provider of creative content, with culture serving as a primary driver of social and economic development. By offering its residents and visitors a diverse cultural program curated to inspire creativity and knowledge development, Abu Dhabi aims to broaden artistic and cultural expression. This will result in a culturally active and artistically conscious city with strong ties to the surrounding area and the rest of the world.
The emirate keeps advancing and enhancing cultural institutions. Along with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the renowned Universal Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and other significant buildings that make up the Saadiyat Cultural District, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will be located there. The performing arts, media, and gaming industries in the emirate will all receive additional funding for their wide range of activities and programs. Saadiyat Cultural District, an ambitious effort, will have one of the biggest concentrations of cultural experiences on earth and become one of the foremost cultural destinations in the world thanks to its museums, cultural centers, and educational institutions.
