Art Dubai, the Middle East’s leading international art fair, has been appointed as the first commissioning entity for a new government initiative to manage and produce the inaugural landmark Dubai Public Art commission, installing art in a prominent public garden in the Al Hudaiba area in late 2023.
Applications for the commission opened on 13 January, with a deadline to submit proposals on 13 February 2023. Shortlisted artists will be announced at Art Dubai on 1-5 March, and each will receive USD 5,000 to create a proposal and maquette of their pieces in anticipation of the winner’s announcement in Spring 2023. The winning landmark piece will be unveiled to the public in late 2023. Full details of the open call are on this link. More information about the initiative and updates are available on the official Dubai Culture and Art Dubai websites and social media pages.
Art Dubai will also dedicate the 10th edition of its flagship education and professional development programme, Campus Art Dubai (CAD), to public art. The annual programme offers a special curriculum that provides UAE-based talents with a platform to develop their artistic skills. CAD Public Art aims to build sector knowledge and capacity in the rapidly growing field of public art commissioning.
