M. Clark , a New York City-based gilder, is a visionary artist whose creations transcend traditional boundaries by using metallic foils. With a keen eye for texture, shape, and reflectivity, Clark’s artwork invites viewers into a dynamic world where light and form intertwine to create visual dialogues about emotion and perception.

Fascinated by the reflective properties of gold, copper, and silver foils, Clark gravitates towards these timeless materials for their ability to capture and manipulate light. Through her meticulous process, she applies metal foils to 2-dimensional surfaces using an innovative technique derived from a printing process, resulting in large-scale, textural masterpieces that captivate the imagination.

Clark’s artistic journey unfolds over multiple months, with each piece evolving through numerous stages of creation. Guided by intuition and a sense of flow, she navigates the compositional puzzle, allowing the medium to dictate the direction of her strokes. The result is a series of artworks that transcend the constraints of colour, inviting viewers to explore the interplay between shapes, textures, and light.

As a dyslexic, Clark sees written communication as a limited form of expression, preferring to communicate through non-representational means. Her artwork is a testament to the power of texture, shape, and movement to convey emotion and feeling, offering viewers a unique opportunity to engage with art on a visceral level.

Central to Clark’s practice is the relationship between artwork and audience. By harnessing the reflectivity of her medium, she invites viewers to become active participants in the creative process, their reactions and interactions becoming integral components of the artwork itself.

Clark’s artistic journey is marked by discipline, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from Brigham Young University and a background as an art director for leading brands, she brings a wealth of experience and rigour to her craft.

Having exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, Clark’s work has garnered widespread acclaim and recognition, earning her multiple awards and accolades, including an Award of Excellence from The Kennedy Center. Her pieces, owned by collectors worldwide, have been featured in prestigious publications and exhibited in renowned institutions such as the Smithsonian.

In M. Clark’s art, the boundaries between light and form, artist and audience, dissolve, giving rise to a dynamic, mutable experience that transcends the confines of traditional artistic expression.
