From a young age, Laurie Tousignant was known as the “art kid” in school, always immersed in creating and expressing through various mediums. This passion for art didn’t just stay within the classroom walls—it became the foundation of a flourishing career in the animation industry.

Laurie’s journey into the professional art world was a natural progression of her childhood fascination with drawing and creating. Encouraged by teachers, friends, and family, she pursued formal education in Fine Arts. However, it wasn’t until she discovered the animation program that she found her true calling.

“I always loved and admired animated films and independent video games,” Laurie recalls. “The creativity and dedication behind these works inspired me to switch my focus to animation. It was a perfect match.”

In the animation program, Laurie honed her skills and found her niche. The combination of storytelling, character development, and visual artistry in animation resonated with her deeply. She thrived in an environment that encouraged her to blend her traditional art skills with digital techniques, opening new avenues for creativity.

Today, Laurie is a digital artist in the animation industry, contributing her talents to various projects. Her work is characterized by a unique blend of traditional and digital art, showcasing her versatility and deep understanding of different mediums. Despite the demands of her professional career, Laurie continues to engage in art-making during her free time. Whether it’s exploring traditional mediums or creating comics, she remains dedicated to her craft.

“I can’t imagine a day without creating something,” she says. “Art is not just a job for me; it’s a way of life.”

Laurie’s admiration for the artists behind animated films and independent games fuels her aspiration to one day create her own project. She envisions a future where she can bring her stories to life, drawing inspiration from the works that have influenced her throughout her journey.

As Laurie continues to grow and evolve in her career, she inspires young artists. Her story is a testament to the power of following one’s passion and the importance of adapting and finding the right path. For those who were also the “art kids” in school, Laurie’s journey is a reminder that it’s possible to turn a childhood dream into a successful career with dedication and hard work.

In a world where creativity is often undervalued, Laurie Tousignant stands out as a beacon of artistic perseverance and passion. Her work in the animation industry and her continued dedication to art-making serve as a reminder that the journey of an artist is ever-evolving and full of possibilities.
