Von Bartha announced that will it open a new gallery in an iconic historical building in Copenhagen, Denmark which will be its first location outside Switzerland. Reflecting an innovative vision under the leadership of Stefan von Bartha, it will become the first international gallery to open a space in the Scandinavian city, sharing von Bartha’s contemporary programme with both a wider Scandinavian and international audience.

The opening of the Copenhagen space will follow the gallery’s second participation in Enter Art Fair (26-29 August 2021), where Stefan von Bartha is on the Selection Committee. The new location was chosen after seeing the city’s reputation as  an important European hub for ground-breaking art, design and fashion, as well as the family-run gallery’s Scandinavian roots and strong connections to the Nordic region.

The gallery will present an exhibition of work by Imi Knoebel in their S-chanf space from  November 2021 to February 2022. After 15 years of diverse exhibition programming, this will be the final show von Bartha will present in the space. The exhibition will explore the theme of the surrounding Swiss mountains and will reference the exhibition Knoebel presented to open the S-chanf gallery in 2006.

After being an important player of the Swiss art scene for over 50 years, the gallery’s continued presence and commitment in the Engadin, along with the opening of its new space in Copenhagen in 2021 represent a dynamic approach in creating new opportunities for von Bartha to inspire new audiences in Switzerland and abroad.

Stefan von Bartha, Director sais,” After establishing our headquarters in Basel with our amazing site behind the gas station, we are excited to add a new space in Copenhagen, featuring a former lighthouse, to our roster of distinct gallery spaces. It will mark another unique site and city, where we are able to showcase the artists and estates in our programme.”

Mamie Beth Cary, Director of von Bartha Copenhagen said, “It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to build this gallery in a city where art and creativity is celebrated and can thrive. I am excited to introduce von Bartha’s extensive programme to new audiences in the Nordic region, in a very special building that is part of Copenhagen’s own artistic heritage and cultural history.”
