The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) has celebrated its 2024 winners, highlighting stunning works from photographers around the globe. Here are three standout entries:

Youmn Mohammed Almanla –

Second place in the ‘Color’ category. The Saudi photographer captured the breathtaking beauty of Moroccan equestrian art, ‘tbourida,’ showing horse riders firing rifles against a dramatic twilight backdrop. Almanla described the scene as “a breathtaking display of skill, bravery, and the untamed spirit of the desert.”

Liping Cao –

Grand Prize winner in the ‘Sustainability’ theme. The Chinese photographer’s black-and-white image, “Quiet Power,” depicts the stark beauty of an Australian wind farm. As described by HIPA, “The dry riverbed below the turbines adds depth, while serving as a reminder of the importance of sustainable practices.”

Fatma Alzahra Shbair –

First place in the ‘Portfolio’ category. The Palestinian photographer’s poignant collection captures the ongoing struggle in Gaza, telling stories of survival amid collective suffering. HIPA noted, “Through telling the stories of others, the storyteller realized they were also sharing their own – an intertwined account of survival and collective suffering.”

These winners reflect diverse global perspectives, from the desert’s heart to sustainable futures and the ongoing struggle for survival. Their work exemplifies the power of photography to capture history, resilience, and the beauty of the world.
