The waterfront neighborhood of Greenpoint in Brooklyn welcomes a striking new addition: The Huron, a residential complex designed by New York-based Morris Adjmi Architects. Combining industrial aesthetics with contemporary elegance, the project features two glass-and-steel towers connected by a suite of luxurious interior spaces, which the studio meticulously designed.
Drawing Inspiration from Greenpoint’s Industrial Past
“The Huron reflects Greenpoint’s past and present, paying homage to the neighborhood’s golden age of industrialism,” said Morris Adjmi Architects. The design is influenced by Brooklyn’s waterfront heritage and artist Edward Hopper’s urban landscapes, which capture the interplay between industrial architecture and everyday life.
A Sophisticated Interior Palette
The lobby offers a warm welcome with its pink leather-wrapped reception desk, complemented by a backdrop of vivid green, hand-glazed tiles. Flanked by wood-paneled walls, the space features curated art displays, while the neutral-toned furnishings include Giulio Marelli sofas, Gubi chairs, and custom rugs, all thoughtfully chosen to soften the industrial touches like exposed concrete columns and metal-framed windows.
Curved furniture pieces balance the building’s linear forms, creating inviting seating areas for residents and visitors alike.
Residences Designed for Elegance and Functionality
The Huron offers 171 residences ranging from studios to four-bedroom units, with a third of them featuring private outdoor spaces. The kitchens boast light-toned Greek marble backsplashes and waterfall islands, paired with walnut cabinetry and black hardware. These details blend luxury with practicality, catering to a modern urban lifestyle.
Amenities Offering Unmatched Experiences
Residents have access to a range of amenities that redefine city living. The west tower houses a 50-foot (15-meter) indoor saltwater pool overlooking the East River, where limestone walls and mosaic tiles enhance the ambiance.
Additional facilities include a communal lounge with herringbone oak floors, a private dining room, a fitness center, and spaces tailored for families, such as a kids’ playroom and a teen lounge. Outdoor terraces atop both towers provide panoramic views of the waterfront and cityscape.
Revitalizing Greenpoint’s Waterfront
The Huron joins a wave of transformative developments along the Greenpoint waterfront, which has rapidly evolved into a hub for design-forward architecture and upscale living. Neighboring towers by prominent firms like OMA underscore this revitalization, creating a blend of industrial history and modern luxury.
