Avant Arte and Artspace Collaborate with Contemporary Artists to Redefine Ancient Greek Vessels

Avant Arte and Artspace have unveiled a unique collection of hand-painted ceramic amphorae, bringing together the ancient with the modern. Seven contemporary artists have been tapped to reimagine the classical Greek vessels, transforming them into works of art that reflect their own aesthetic codes and symbolic expressions. This collaboration seamlessly blends classical craftsmanship with contemporary art, offering a fresh perspective on a timeless form.

A Fusion of Artistic Styles and Symbolism

The collection includes diverse artistic interpretations of the traditional amphorae, each one offering a distinct narrative. Among the highlights is Hilary Pecis’ “Lily Pond,” an infinite, aquatic study that invites viewers into a meditative world of nature. Jordan Casteel’s “Peak Summer” captures the peaceful serenity of gardening, while Derek Fordjour’s “Horn Trot Round” continues his exploration of the HBCU Marching Band series, emphasizing rhythm, community, and shared rituals. Harland Miller’s “R U OK?” and Jenny Holzer’s “Full” deliver striking political statements, infusing the terracotta-like amphorae with deep socio-political resonance.

Each piece in the collection is hand-painted using acrylics, finished with a matte seal and engraved with the artist’s signature on the base. The amphorae measure 12.4 x 10.2 x 10.2 inches and are produced in a limited edition of 30 pieces per design. Each comes signed and numbered, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, making them highly sought-after collector’s items.

Details on Purchase and Charity Benefit

Collectors interested in acquiring a piece from this exclusive collection can enter the draw via Avant Arte, with the sale event scheduled for Tuesday, 28 January 2025, at 12:00 EST. The proceeds from the sale will benefit charity: water, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing clean and safe water to communities in need worldwide.
