Custom amber glass sets warm, intimate tone.
Loma bar in Providence, Rhode Island, designed by Studio Becky Carter, offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere, thanks to custom amber glass and vintage-inspired design elements. Owned by Leishla Maldonado, Osman, and Yefri Cortave, the bar reflects their Latin American roots while providing a unique, welcoming space.
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The design of Loma embraces its compact 450-square-foot layout by creating a warm, intimate atmosphere. Terracotta tiles and cylindrical side tables pay homage to Latin American interiors, with a vintage Latin bar feel throughout.
Studio Becky Carter carefully selected elements to enhance the mood, such as 1970s Italian cast-glass sconces that cast intricate shadows on the lime-washed walls. These fixtures, combined with amber window panes, bathe the space in a soft, caramel glow, enhancing the bar’s welcoming vibe.
Custom and Curated Details
The space features a custom mahogany partition that shields the entrance and creates a sense of mystery. The velvet-upholstered banquette, also custom-designed by Carter, wraps around the main seating area, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the space.
Vintage furniture and objects, sourced by Carter and the Loma team, contribute to the bar’s distinct character, while locally crafted pieces from Transom Woodwork further elevate the design.
A Focus on Intimacy and Detail
The bar’s design allows for intimate interactions, with only four stools around the cozy mahogany counter. Guests can enjoy quiet conversations with the owner while sipping drinks made with hand-chiseled ice. The space’s details, from the lighting to the furnishings, slowly reveal themselves, enhancing the overall experience.
