French contemporary artist Mathias Kiss has collaborated with Christofle, the renowned French silversmith, to introduce a unique tableware collection titled “Perspectives.” This exclusive series features six intricately designed pieces, which can be used individually or combined for a striking visual effect. By blending classical influences with modern aesthetics, Kiss challenges traditional craftsmanship while creating innovative functional art.

Drawing inspiration from architectural moldings, the collection transforms ornamental details into sculptural candleholders, a faceted glass vase, and candelabras. These pieces showcase alternating projections and recesses, offering a surreal yet structured aesthetic. Additionally, Kiss’s signature approach to decorative motifs is evident, as he reimagines ornamentation as a functional design element rather than mere embellishment.
Innovative Materials and Craftsmanship
For this collaboration, Christofle explored new materials and manufacturing techniques to bring Kiss’s vision to life. Instead of relying solely on its traditional silver craftsmanship, the Maison turned to aluminum, primarily because of its lightweight properties and high mechanical strength. This material choice was crucial, as it allowed for maintaining the intricate profiles of the candleholders and candelabras. Furthermore, each piece is finished with Christofle’s signature polish, which enhances durability while also providing resistance to oxidation and heat.
One of the most remarkable pieces in the collection is the faceted glass vase. Composed of 12 translucent facets of varying sizes and thicknesses, it undergoes an advanced assembly process using UV-cured adhesive. Once manually polished, the vase is subjected to a fine abrasion technique, ensuring a soft, luminous finish. Additionally, it includes a removable aluminum base, allowing for easy water changes while maintaining an elegant and cohesive design.
A Statement in Luxury Tableware
Mathias Kiss’s “Perspectives” collection for Christofle demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship can be transformed through contemporary experimentation. By merging historical elegance with modern innovation, the collaboration brings a fresh perspective to luxury tableware.
With prices ranging from $275 to $9,500, the collection is available for purchase through Christofle. Each piece is designed to offer both artistic appeal and practical use, making them a sophisticated addition to any refined interior.
