The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, in collaboration with Zakhraf for Arts, recently hosted a workshop titled “Arabic Calligraphy: The Eloquence of Symbols and the Icon of Form.” Led by Emirati calligrapher Mohammad Altamimi, the session focused on Ruq’ah script, one of the most widely used Arabic calligraphy styles.

Exploring the Richness of Arabic Calligraphy
The two-day workshop introduced participants to the history of Arabic calligraphy. It also covered the influential schools that shaped this artistic tradition and the contributions of renowned Arab calligraphers. More importantly, the event provided a deep dive into Ruq’ah script, its structure, and the artistic rules that define its form.
To make the experience more engaging, attendees were encouraged to practise writing Ruq’ah script firsthand. Under the guidance of Mohammad Altamimi, they refined their skills and gained a better understanding of this unique style.
