HAVEN returns with a refined take on denim, unveiling its latest capsule collection crafted in the heart of Kojima, Okayama—the birthplace of Japanese denim. Focusing on authenticity, texture, and heritage, the Vancouver-based outerwear specialist pays tribute to generations of artisanal expertise through its new Washed Suvin Cotton Selvedge Denim collection.
Known for its commitment to durability and technical precision, HAVEN places craftsmanship front and centre in this drop. Each piece is made from Suvin cotton, a rare, long-staple fibre known for its silky softness and strength. While selvedge denim is traditionally rigid, HAVEN’s washed version prioritises comfort and breathability, striking a balance between structure and wearability.
A Multi-Step Masterpiece of Japanese Craftsmanship
The production process begins with meticulous hand-sanding, where artisans abrade specific areas—such as the front whiskers and behind the knees—to form the signature “hachinosu” or beehive texture. This method sets the foundation for the denim’s distinctive depth and dimension.
Next, the garments undergo scraping with an electric planer, a technique that gently shaves the fabric surface to create a broken-in feel. An enzyme wash follows, subtly fading the silhouette and enhancing its lived-in quality. The final touches include light bleaching and detailed hand-finishing, ensuring every pair is uniquely refined.
“This drop is more than denim—it’s a tribute to the legacy and precision of Japanese textile artisans,” HAVEN shared in a release.
