At this year’s 3daysofdesign festival, Danish design brand Muuto will unveil a piece that invites us to pause, recline, and gaze upward. The Dream View Bench, created in collaboration with designer Lise Vester, reimagines seating as a meditative, celestial experience.

Sculpted from reflective stainless steel, the ergonomic bench encourages users to shift their perspective — both physically and mentally — by looking up at the sky.

From Sand to Steel: A Sculptural Design Journey

The design began in an unexpected place — a beach. Vester mapped the contours of her body in the sand, then translated the form into styrofoam. Through extensive user testing with people of varying heights and ages, she fine-tuned the form into what she describes as the ideal posture for “ergonomic skygazing.”

The final design reflects this journey. Produced in Denmark, the Dream View Bench comes in two configurations: a 60cm single-seater and a 100cm two-seater, making it ideal for solo reflection or a shared moment of stillness.

A Functional Sculpture That Captures the Sky

Crafted in highly polished stainless steel, the bench captures and refracts surrounding light. When placed outdoors, it mirrors the ever-changing hues of the sky—clouds, sunlight, or moonlight—turning the piece into a kinetic sculpture that transforms throughout the day.

“The sky remains ever-present – limitless and available to most, as long as we remember to look up,” said Lise Vester. “This beauty – and these small moments of appreciation – are often overlooked in the rush of daily life. I wanted to create a design that draws the viewer’s gaze upward, curating moments of focus and daydreaming.”

Pre-Launch at 3daysofdesign, Official Release in September

The Dream View Bench will be pre-launched at Muuto’s showroom during the 3daysofdesign festival in Copenhagen. The full global release is scheduled for September 2025, with availability for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Straddling the line between functional furniture and poetic sculpture, the Dream View Bench not only adds comfort but also nudges us toward contemplation—reminding us, quite simply, to look up.
