GamFratesi has unveiled the interior design of Puro Warszawa Stare Miasto, a hotel in Warsaw’s Old Town that merges Scandinavian simplicity with local craftsmanship. Located on Canaletta Street, the hotel sits in a UNESCO World Heritage district known for architectural richness.
The exterior respects its historic context. Inside, however, it tells a story of soft minimalism, clean forms, and earthy tones—hallmarks of the Danish-Italian design studio.
A Fluid Layout With Thoughtful Materials
The hotel’s layout encourages flow. From the reception desk—crafted from dark Danish wood—guests are guided across a handmade brick floor into a lounge and restaurant. A soft beige rug and sculptural stone table add visual texture. Above, a pendant light provides warmth.
“A key aspect was to create a continuous flow from one room to another,” said Enrico Fratesi, co-founder of GamFratesi. “We used portal-like doors to connect spaces naturally.”
A curved ceiling lounge leads to a green courtyard, adding light and nature to the design. Seating includes a long sofa, low stone tables, and lounge chairs, creating a quiet retreat.
Rooted in Local Craft and Nordic Calm
Natural materials dominate: wood, stone, and textured fabrics appear throughout. Each element was chosen for its authenticity and timeless quality. Handmade bricks and Danish woods hint at craftsmanship and tradition.
“We used tactile materials that would age well,” said Fratesi. “That was key to giving the hotel a warm, lasting personality.”
At Mund, the hotel’s bakery and restaurant, veneered cabinets and wooden panels create a cosy setting. Local artwork and a neutral palette nod to artist Bernardo Bellotto (Canaletto), who famously depicted Warsaw’s cityscapes.
Custom Design Meets Iconic Brands
GamFratesi custom-designed much of the furniture. They also included iconic pieces from Scandinavian brands like Gubi, Carl Hansen & Son, Louis Poulsen, &Tradition, Fredericia, and Bang & Olufsen. The mix creates a space that feels collected, not curated.
“We blended vintage, contemporary, and bespoke elements,” the studio said. “We wanted it to feel like home—even in a newly built space.”
Guest Rooms With a Residential Feel
Across the hotel’s 192 rooms, the design continues with travertine headboards, custom mirrors, and sculpted furniture. Bathrooms feature deep white tubs and gold-framed mirrors. Larger suites include private terraces and lounge spaces, designed to feel like urban apartments.
The hotel also includes meeting rooms, a gym, and a dry sauna, offering a full guest experience across all levels.
GamFratesi’s design proves that luxury can be quiet, personal, and rooted in place. At Puro Warszawa, Scandinavian calm finds a home in the heart of Poland.
