CIGA Design has teamed up with Swiss atelier Label Noir to unveil the Blue Planet II Black Star Edition — a cosmic reimagining of its popular Blue Planet series. Inspired by deep space, the timepiece features a unique black hole dial that absorbs nearly all visible light, offering both visual drama and mechanical innovation.
A Dial That Captures the Cosmos
Moving away from Earthly inspirations, the Black Star Edition dives into galactic territory. At its heart is an 8.5mm concave pit coated in Super Black pigment — a substance that absorbs 99.6% of light, creating an illusion of infinite depth. This central void is surrounded by spiraling galaxy motifs rendered through CMYK gradient printing. Time is displayed via a luminous polar-star hand that orbits across the dial, mimicking celestial movement.
Premium Build and Futuristic Function
The 46mm case is made from Grade 2 titanium with a black DLC finish, paired with a durable black fluororubber strap and a folding clasp. The watch is topped with a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and boasts a water resistance of 3 ATM.
Inside, the watch is powered by the Swiss-made CD-04-S automatic movement. CIGA Design’s proprietary Asynchronous-Follow Technology enables a single-hand time display, rotating the hour ring by 30 degrees and the minute ring by 390 degrees for a smooth, intuitive read. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement delivers a 41-hour power reserve.
