Renowned designer Jasper Morrison has unveiled a new collaboration with French silverware house Puiforcat. The collection, titled Jersey, reflects Morrison’s signature “Super Normal” philosophy and introduces a minimalist series of cutlery items crafted from Japanese cherry wood.

The Jersey range includes a fork, knife, spoon, serving utensils, and a pair of chopsticks. Each piece is finished with an ultra-fine layer of Japanese lacquer, designed to enhance the natural grain of the wood while offering a protective and antibacterial coating. According to Puiforcat, this technique enables the wood to breathe, all while maintaining durability.

Morrison’s intention was to allow the material to take centre stage, adhering to his pared-back design ethos. The Super Normal concept, he explained, responds to a design world that has “forgotten its roots and the basic notion that we designers are supposed to take care of the man-made environment and try to improve it.” He added, “Super Normal is a bridge between the two worlds, an attempt to reunite them.”

The use of wood represents a significant shift for Puiforcat, a brand founded in 1820 by Emile and Joseph-Marie Puiforcat and traditionally associated with metalwork. The Jersey collection was initially conceived as a complement to a set of serving pieces created by Donald Judd, titled Dinner Service.

The collection is currently available for purchase through the official Puiforcat website.
