HUF has introduced its first collaboration with American heritage brand G.H. Bass, spotlighting the Larson Penny Loafer. Rather than altering the silhouette with modern technical elements, HUF preserves its classic form while incorporating innovative materials. The standout feature is “chameleon” leather, which appears black initially but gradually reveals a deep green tone over time. This distinctive leather is crafted exclusively by G.H. Bass in El Salvador and finished with a wax coating that adds softness and a subtle sheen while allowing the green underlayer to emerge naturally.
Inside, the design continues the green motif through lining and insoles. Each pair comes with two HUF “transit” coins in gold and HUF green, adding a collectible element to the release. This thoughtful approach aligns with the growing demand for heritage-inspired footwear that bridges timeless craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.
A Loafer Revival in Contemporary Fashion
The resurgence of loafer silhouettes began after the dominance of athleisure during global lockdowns. By 2022, as restrictions eased, fashion shifted toward formal footwear, accelerating demand for refined classics. In 2025, this return to elegance has intensified, fuelled by cultural moments like the Met Gala’s Black Dandy theme. Loafers now occupy a prominent place in both streetwear and luxury contexts.
Several brands have experimented with the style, from New Balance using running sneaker materials in 2024 to Nike incorporating Air Max units into loafer designs this year. PUMA, HOKA, Vans, and KEEN have also released creative hybrids, proving the enduring adaptability of this staple silhouette. Against this backdrop, HUF and G.H. Bass deliver a collaboration that honours tradition while embracing modernity through subtle material innovation.
