The 34th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF 2025), organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), commenced under the theme “Knowledge Illuminates Our Community”, celebrating books as a bridge for cultural exchange. His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, opened the event by thanking all participants and contributors. He emphasised that the fair aims to unite people through reading and serve as a platform for open, civilised communication.
H.E. bin Tamim highlighted that Caribbean culture, this year’s Guest of Honour, offers a rare model of diversity, pluralism, and openness. He remarked, “This edition comes at a pivotal moment, as the region and the world witness rapid shifts in cultural presence, knowledge sharing, and the evolving role of language in interconnected societies.” With this in mind, the fair continues to position itself as a global stage for dialogue and creative exchange.
Caribbean Voices and National Identity
The opening session, moderated by Ayesha Eid Al Mazrouei, Director of Events and Book Fairs at ALC, featured a keynote by His Excellency Renso Herrera Franco, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the UAE. In his remarks, H.E. Franco stated, “Culture and humanity are the true voices of our nation. National narratives reveal the essence of a country, offer perspective, and carry its legacy forward.” He noted that the Caribbean region, with its deep-rooted stories, seeks to share these narratives worldwide.
Moreover, H.E. Franco underlined the importance of culinary heritage, describing it as a vital element of national identity that enriches both cultural expression and historical understanding. By including this perspective, the fair offers a multifaceted view of cultural storytelling and human connection.
Expanding Horizons Through Literature and Innovation
ADIBF 2025 hosts 1,400 exhibitors from 96 countries, presenting more than 2,000 activities that appeal to a wide audience. These activities span key themes such as Society, Fantasy, Sustainability, Arab Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence. This year’s Focus Personality is Ibn Sina, honoured on the 1,000th anniversary of The Canon of Medicine, his seminal contribution to medical knowledge.
In alignment with Abu Dhabi’s broader cultural strategy, the fair also introduces initiatives that support emerging literary talent, strengthen the Arabic library, and empower a new generation of digital content creators. Attendees can participate in diverse events including cooking demonstrations, book readings, film and photography workshops, and live musical performances.
By embracing innovation and cultural inclusivity, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025 reaffirms the UAE’s commitment to global dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the enduring power of literature.
