Abu Dhabi will welcome a vibrant new attraction this September: Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi, the emirate’s first immersive butterfly sanctuary. Located next to The National Aquarium in Al Qana, this destination is set to become a family favourite and a nature-lover’s paradise.
An Immersive First for the Capital
The gardens will feature lush tropical landscapes enclosed within climate-controlled bio-domes. These domes have been designed to replicate diverse ecosystems from across the globe. More than 10,000 butterflies will inhabit the space, flying freely in a setting that mirrors their natural environments.
This isn’t just an attraction—it’s an experience that connects people with nature. The Butterfly Gardens also aim to blend exploration with environmental education, offering a space where visitors can truly engage with biodiversity.
Over 10,000 Butterflies in Two Global Zones
The facility is divided into two zones: Asia and the Americas. Each dome highlights butterflies and wildlife native to that region. Also, in the Americas zone, visitors will discover two-toed sloths, caiman crocodiles, and a variety of insects. Meanwhile, the Asian dome features animals like bearcats, koi carp, and colourful regional insects.
While walking through the domes, guests will be surrounded by butterflies. The immersive design ensures close encounters with nature in every corner, making the experience both magical and educational.
A Journey That Blends Education With Nature
Paul Hamilton, General Manager of The Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi, shared the project’s core vision:
“With the Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi, our primary objective is to create an environment that authentically mirrors their natural habitats, ensuring they thrive in a secure and controlled setting. It is more than an attraction; it’s a nature reserve designed to promote a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our ecosystems. We aim to inspire visitors to engage with nature on a meaningful level.”
The gardens also serve as an educational hub. Children, families, and students will learn how different species contribute to ecological balance. With engaging exhibits and interactive learning zones, the facility aims to foster curiosity and responsibility toward the environment.
This unique blend of entertainment, conservation, and education is expected to draw tourists and residents alike. By offering a dynamic experience rooted in sustainability, Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi positions itself as a standout addition to the UAE’s eco-tourism landscape.
