The ‘Mawhibaty Students Showcase’ is now open at Manarat Al Saadiyat, featuring over 200 talented pupils who have participated in the visual arts section of this year’s talent development program. Organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), the exhibition showcases more than 500 artworks until August 20, inviting the public to explore the diverse artistic expressions of students from public, private, and charter schools in Abu Dhabi.
The exhibition spans various artistic mediums, including graphic design, illustration, painting, sculpture, photography, and calligraphy, providing students with a platform to express their creativity and nurture their artistic development. This year marks the sixth edition of the exhibition, further solidifying Abu Dhabi’s commitment to fostering the creative talents of its youth.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, highlights the emirate’s dedication to nurturing young talent and expresses the significance of the DCT Abu Dhabi-ADEK collaboration in arts education. The exhibition serves as a catalyst for creativity within Abu Dhabi’s education ecosystem and allows talented students to become future ambassadors, showcasing their pride in their national identity while honouring the region’s rich history and culture.
The Mawhibaty program not only provides a platform for students to present their artworks but also offers opportunities to participate in regional and international exhibitions, including events like Comic Con, Expo2020, and the Jewels Festival in New York. The program aims to discover and nurture emerging artistic talents across Abu Dhabi, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of national and cultural identity through art and performance.
Throughout the year, students engage in training sessions conducted by skilled art professionals at various cultural centres, such as Marsam Al Hor, the Children’s Art Centre at the Cultural Foundation, the Art Studio at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Bait Al Oud, Berklee Abu Dhabi, and Al Qattara Arts Centre. These sessions further enhance their artistic skills and provide a supportive environment for their creative growth.
The exhibition not only honours the dedication of gifted students but also recognizes the invaluable contributions of inspiring teachers and support staff throughout the year. It showcases the immense talent, dedication, and hard work of these young artists, providing them with a platform to share their artistic visions and aspirations.
Gulf News had the opportunity to speak with some of the participating students, who expressed their passion for art and gratitude for the support they have received from their families and schools. They shared their dreams of becoming professional artists, decorators, painters, and photographers, with aspirations of owning galleries and studios to display their work.
