In 2022, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will mark the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. The #ActNow Live Virtual Reality Experience will be featuring monthly events held inside iconic architectural and natural landmarks around the planet built by some of the world’s top virtual world builders in support of individual action on climate change and sustainability.
#ActNowVR creates immersive learning environments for digital education, highlighting the critical role Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities play in mitigating and adapting to climate change using traditional knowledge-based mitigation and adaptation strategies.
The #ActNowVR pilot project debuted in MetaDubai with a digital reproduction of the Al Wasl Dome from the World Expo, which celebrated the theme Connecting Minds, Creating the Future with an immersive 360° architectural projection mapping exhibition that covered the dome’s inside façade. Thousands of avatars from over twenty-five countries joined the event via portals from all over the world.
As part of the #ActNowVR Global Festival, a new virtual world will be unveiled each month in digital simulations of UNESCO Natural and Cultural World Heritage sites like the Taj Mahal in India, Shilin Stone Forest in China, Atsina nana Rainforest in Madagascar, Ny Fjord in Norway, Timbuktu in Mali, and the Central Amazon Conservation Complex in Brazil.
