Aēsop is unveiling its newest Eau de Parfum, “Above Us, Steorra,” a fragrance that reimagines amber through a celestial lens. Conceived by perfumer Céline Barel, the creation draws inspiration from three abstract sources: Mayuzumi Madoka’s poem Shooting Star, a night-sky photograph, and the hues of fossilized resin. The result is what Barel calls “Celestial Amber,” a composition that feels luminous yet intriguingly unconventional.
Layers of Spice, Resin, and Warmth
The scent opens with vivid notes of bergamot, raw cardamom, and peppery elemi, echoing the fiery streak of a meteor. At its heart, rich layers of Cypriol Heart, labdanum, and frankincense bring an earthy resonance, balanced by a return of spiced cardamom. A base of rum-like vanilla infuses warmth without leaning into sweetness, ensuring the composition remains modern and textural. By dialing back powdery tones and amplifying woods and resins, Aēsop offers an amber accord that feels alive and dynamic.
