Aesop has opened a striking new retail location in Madrid’s historic Las Salesas district. The 105-square-metre space was designed by architects Matteo Ferrari and Ciszak Dalmas, who drew inspiration from Spanish Modernism and the iconic Palacio de Longoria nearby.
This new store reflects Aesop’s commitment to architectural storytelling by integrating local materials, craftsmanship, and design heritage. Every element within the space has been carefully curated to create a refined, immersive retail experience.
Artful Details and Natural Materials
The interior prominently features the “Trencadís” mosaic technique, a hallmark of Spanish Modernist design. Fragments of ceramic tile cover the floors, countertops, and displays, creating a visual rhythm throughout the store. Meanwhile, natural light passes through hammered “Cathedral” glass, casting subtle reflections across the space.
Freestanding sinks made of Spanish Wild Granite, walnut wood, and glass add texture and function to the interior. Toward the rear, a transparent portico visually connects the front and back zones of the store, enhancing the spatial flow.
Warm Tones, Rich Textures, and Local Influence
Clay plaster walls and warm wood veneers give the store a tactile, grounded ambiance. These finishes balance the strong architectural lines and sculptural elements, inviting customers into a calm and thoughtful retail environment.
By integrating regional craftsmanship with contemporary elegance, Aesop’s Madrid boutique extends the brand’s legacy of unique, site-specific design—offering a space that honours both heritage and innovation.
