Designer Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez challenges traditional material perceptions with his latest project, Momento. Known for his work at NYC-based design incubator Lichen, Rodriguez has crafted a collection that softens the industrial feel of metal by incorporating delicate floral inspirations.

Momento serves as a reflection of Rodriguez’s personal style and creative philosophy. “I wanted to upend the idea of metal being only a cold, rigid, and lifeless material,” he explained. By transforming metal into organic, flower-like forms, he proves that even the toughest materials can convey warmth and beauty.

A Sculptural Approach to Everyday Design

The Momento collection includes two distinctive pieces: a seven-inch sculpture and a 14-inch-wide lampshade. Each design is available in both vibrant red and muted stainless steel. The red version features bloom-inspired details, while the unpainted stainless steel option highlights the raw beauty of metal. The sculpture also incorporates a green base, subtly referencing a flower’s stem.

Functionality remains a key aspect of the design. The lamps include ceiling hooks for easy installation, seamlessly blending artistry with practicality.

A Unique Addition to Modern Spaces

By merging industrial materials with organic aesthetics, Rodriguez offers a fresh take on contemporary design. His approach challenges the notion that metal is purely utilitarian, proving instead that it can be expressive and evocative.

The full Momento collection is now available on Rodriguez’s website, with lamps priced at $250 and sculptures at $150.
