The American University of Sharjah (AUS) commemorated UNICEF Day by welcoming students from various “Sharakah” schools at the AUS Knight Arts Challenge 2023 to compete and showcase their works of art in honour of the creation of the worldwide children’s fund. UNICEF Day increases global awareness of the necessity of assisting less disadvantaged children. The university’s strong belief in the need of working closely with younger generations to broaden their views inspired this year’s topic.
The challenge, organised by the Office of Enrollment Management’s Sharakah programme and as part of AUS’ community involvement push, drew 25 students from six schools around the UAE who competed in a dynamic and exciting environment.
“We wanted to promote an engaging art scene where students could express their feelings about UNICEF Day through different works of art. The Sharakah programme at AUS regularly organises similar activities to promote students’ talent in various areas and encourage them to be more expressive. The programme serves as a platform for cooperation between AUS and academic partners in various academic and non-academic areas,” said Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS.
Students participated in three categories: public voting, Instagram voting, and judging. Dana Suleiman of the International School of Creative Science, Sumaiyyah Faridi of the International School of Creative Science, and Affan Sheikh of the International School of Creative Science were the Public Votes category winners.
Lavanya Gary of Emirates International School Jumeirah, Lamia Abuzar of the International School of Creative Science, Sara Alchama of Al Durrah International School, and Zainab Jaffar Ali of Sharjah American International School-Dubai branch were the Instagram Votes category winners.
Sara Alchama of Al Durrah International School, Masah Eyad of the International School of Creative Science, and Adam Sabri of the International School of Creative Science were the winners of the Judges Votes category.
As part of the university’s community engagement strategic objective, the AUS Sharakah programme creates connections with select schools in the UAE and the region to engage school students and teachers via a variety of events, activities, and programmes.
