The artist started drawing five years ago after she turned 40. For the first two years, she drew exclusively with graphite pencils, she used the medium to draw people from reference photos. Ekaterina didn’t take any classes. She just gave in to her passion for sketching.

She found soft pastels at the start of her journey and that made her want to learn from other artists. As a result, the artist started learning about colors and became very good at drawing very realistic pet portraits with pastel pencils.

In 2020, during Covid quarantine, Ekaterina “discovered” the art of Ian Fennelly and that changed her views on architecture sketches. Ekaterina used to find them boring, yet, 1.5 years later she spends most of her time sketching urban scenes.

“I feel often that I’m guided by some inner art instructor as if I’m following a curriculum from within,” says Ekaterina. The artist mentions that she keeps falling in love with everything she tries, she has done pastels, oils, watercolors, acrylics, inks, charcoals, wire art, and quilling. She is very excited to see what’s next for her, but right now she deeply enjoys urban sketching.

“My art is an expression of my desire to become a part of all the beauty I see in the world,” says Ekaterina. She has been awarded the “Best of Show” award in 2019, and also took first place in the art show in 2021 this year, Ekaterina got an honorable mention for her realistic pastel drawings at RNO Employee Art Show.
