Art Basel 2022 will feature 289 prominent galleries from around the world displaying the greatest quality of works in all mediums, ranging from rare and historical classics to new works by today’s developing artistic voices. The fair will feature 70 large-scale artworks in Unlimited, 20 site-specific projects in Parcours, a large-scale floor installation titled ‘Out of Sight’ in homage to American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner, an ambitious Film programme, and Conversations, the fair’s renowned talks series, in addition to showcasing exceptional art within its Galleries, Feature, Statements, and Edition sectors.
‘Our Basel show returns to its traditional June dates this year with full-scale programming across the city, from Lawrence Weiner’s participatory floor installation at the Messeplatz, to site-specific interventions and performances in Parcours, and our dedicated Film programme showcasing artists working with moving image at the Stadtkino Basel,’ says Marc Spiegler, Global Director, Art Basel.
Unlimited, Art Basel’s one-of-a-kind platform for large-scale projects, allows galleries to show off large-scale installations, enormous sculptures, massive wall paintings, long photographic series, and video projections that go beyond the typical art fair booth. Unlimited will be curated by Giovanni Carmine, Director of the Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, and will take place in Hall 1.
Art Basel’s Global Director, Marc Spiegler, says; This year’s Unlimited is both ambitious and diverse, presenting our widest-ever spectrum of artists, many of whom have long been neglected in the art world’.
For the first time, Art Basel will feature Unlimited Night on Thursday, June 16, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the sector during longer opening hours with a programme of unique performances by Ari Benjamin Meyers and Nora Turato.
