The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched the groundbreaking ‘Art + Tech Collaborative Training Programme’, developed in collaboration with REALIITY. This transformative four-month initiative aims to empower artists by merging creative artistry with advanced technological skills, fostering a dynamic fusion of art and innovation.

Running until February 10, 2025, the programme brings together six talented artists for an intensive exploration of art and technology. Participants will delve into the history of technological integration in art, gain proficiency in Python coding, and acquire hands-on experience with basic electronics, sensors, microcontroller programming, 3D modelling, and 3D printing. The culmination of this journey will see the artists creating unique art-tech installations, to be unveiled in a public exhibition.

Hands-On Training at Al Shindagha

The weekly workshops, hosted at Bait 341 in the Al Shindagha Historical District, are led by Dr Ahmed Al Attar, a renowned expert in the field. The programme focuses on cultivating both technical expertise and creative innovation, while encouraging collaboration among participants.

Throughout the training, artists will benefit from:

  • Personalised mentorship tailored to individual growth.
  • Opportunities to experiment with pioneering art-tech methodologies.
  • A supportive, collaborative learning environment to inspire groundbreaking work.

Dr Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts, Design, and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating:
“Dubai’s commitment to innovation and digital transformation has positioned the emirate as a global laboratory for pioneering ideas; the ‘Art + Tech Collaborative Training Programme’ reflects Dubai Culture’s mission to empower artists and inspire them to enrich the creative landscape. By providing artists with a platform to merge art and technology, we are fostering a culture of innovation by enabling them to create unique works that reflect contemporary advancements and engage diverse audiences. This initiative underscores Dubai’s leadership in promoting a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy.”

Showcasing Art-Tech Innovation

The programme, conducted under the umbrella of the Dubai Cultural Grant, aims to nurture emerging talent and encourage innovation in artistic practices. Participants will learn to integrate advanced technologies such as sensors and 3D printing into their art, creating interactive installations.

The initiative will culminate in a public exhibition, offering artists a platform to showcase their work, gain recognition, and connect with audiences. This exhibition will serve as a testament to the integration of technology into the arts, advancing Dubai’s global cultural influence.

Supporting Dubai’s Creative Economy

Through initiatives like this, Dubai Culture continues to champion the convergence of art and technology, highlighting the emirate’s role as a global hub for creativity. By fostering a culture of innovation, the programme aligns with Dubai’s commitment to a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy, enhancing the city’s position as a leader in the global creative landscape.
