Art enthusiasts and film lovers alike are in for a treat this September as the acclaimed PBS series “Art in the Twenty-First Century” takes its first step onto the silver screen with the inaugural Art21 at the Movies event. For two captivating nights, the heart of Manhattan will come alive with premieres, red-carpet glamour, and intimate conversations with some of the world’s most innovative artists and filmmakers.
The extravaganza will commence on September 13th at the Metrograph Theater with a star-studded red carpet opening. This grand affair will bring together a diverse array of artists, filmmakers, and trustees, setting the stage for a remarkable evening. The highlight of the night will be the premiere of Art21’s third season, titled “Friends and Strangers,” which promises to delve deep into the creative minds of luminaries such as Linda Goode Bryant, Miranda July, Christine Sun Kim, and Cannupa Hanska Luger. Many of these artists will grace the event with their presence, offering attendees a rare opportunity to interact and engage with their artistic inspirations. This film, inspired by the life of the renowned artist H.C. Westermann, boasts an impressive cast and crew. Executive produced by artist Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS, narrated by the esteemed actor Ed Harris, and featuring a hauntingly beautiful score by Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet, the film promises to be a sensory delight.
Following the screening, a panel discussion will bring together artists Trenton Doyle Hancock and Aaron Curry, along with director Leslie Buchbinder, offering audiences an in-depth look at the making of this cinematic masterpiece.
