The Ministry of Culture and Youth and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi are supporting three artists from the United Arab Emirates to represent the nation in the 16th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, which will take place from September 14 to December 31, in France.
Hashel Al-Lamki, a multidisciplinary artist, Mohammed Kazem, a conceptual artist, and Chafa Ghaddar, a mural artist, will all exhibit their work at the biennale, which has as its topic “Manifesto of Fragility.”
“The well-known contemporary artists from the UAE who will be participating in this exhibition will be showcasing original works that are infused with Middle Eastern and Arab inspirations. I’m looking forward to seeing them participate in the biennale, wishing them a very successful display, and watching the good outcomes of their creative collaboration materialize.
The exhibition will display contemporary works by living artists alongside historical items from museums in the French city. It will include 230 works by 34 artists and more than 300 archival documents from nearly 40 collections worldwide.
Additionally, it will display collections that have been loaned from the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (also known as the Met), and many of Lyon’s top cultural institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, the Lugdunum Museum and Roman theaters, and the Musées Gadagne.
