Audemars Piguet has acquired the historic “Grosse Pièce” pocket watch at a Sotheby’s auction, securing one of the most significant pieces in the Maison’s heritage. Featuring 19 complications, the watch ties with the legendary 1899 “Universelle” as the most complicated pocket watch ever created by the brand.
The acquisition marks a major moment for Audemars Piguet, underscoring its commitment to preserving the craftsmanship and technical ingenuity that shaped its early legacy. Produced during the height of Swiss grand complication watchmaking, the “Grosse Pièce” represents a pinnacle of mechanical mastery, blending advanced horology with traditional finishing.
Details surrounding the auction, including the final hammer price, have not yet been disclosed. However, the purchase reinforces the Maison’s ongoing effort to expand and protect its historical archive while reintroducing rare timepieces to the public through future exhibitions and museum displays.
